TYPES OF SERVICES

Primary focus of AFPRO Field Unit is on growing number of small NGOs interested in issues related to the Mission and Vision matching with AFPRO. Vulnerable target groups are located closer and accessible to smaller NGOs. The major five working strategies can be described as follows:

i) NETWORKING Working with a larger number of NGOs/Donor or Support Agencies for broad based understanding of issues and problems related to target groups, environment and development, dissemination and exchange of related information, sharing skills, etc. Dissemination of information through bulletins is also envisaged.

With increasing number of small voluntary agencies interested in land and water resources, AFPRO addresses issues, which can be integrated into NRM related sphere. AFPRO also associates with State level broader networks operated by other development agencies.

ii) TIME TO TIME SERVICE Technical and socio-technical services on AFPRO's specialties given to Grass root level Voluntary Agencies/ Communities as required by them or DONOR agencies.

Both established and younger voluntary organisations and donor agencies seek specific technical services available with AFPRO.

iii) COLLABORATIVE SERVICES On specific thematic/innovative programs where AFPRO will be involved with the volags and people's groups right from the planning stage upto a meaningful withdrawal phase.

After initial successful working partnership for some time, few selected projects are elevated to the collaborative status. AFPRO, Donor and local partner NGO along with the community take equal responsibility in the success of programme. This experience gives AFPRO better understanding on grass root level situation.

iv) CAPACITY BUILDING Appropriate training programs and skill development programs to Voluntary agency workers and community representatives to ensure a self sustaining management system at all levels. This also involves promoting para technical teams trained skilled youth and regional resource centres at NGO level.

Voluntary agencies in this region expect AFPRO to provide technical information service to upgrade the skills of their staff. One major role of AFPRO continues as an agency to conduct training courses of current relevance.

v) THEMATIC/SPECIFIC STUDIES Based on pressing development needs and support available from Donors/Govt./International Agencies, some thematic studies on development programs are also carried out.

FIELD UNIT STRUCTURE AND OPERATIONAL STRATEGY:

A Multi-disciplinary Team of Specialists forms the base for the socio-technical services rendered by the Field Unit. The Unit Manager coordinates technical Specialists and supporting staff. The work is being shared by the entire group depending on the type of service rendered. Programme policy and financial decisions are taken by the Executive Director, AFPRO, New Delhi as per the requirement of the Field Unit. NGO's approaching for AFPRO Services fall in any one of the following categories.

As the number of NGOs working with rural communities is increasing gradually, AFPRO's inputs can reach only a limited number of organisations. In view of this, efforts will be made in the future to assist a group of voluntary agencies rather than individual organisations in terms of capacity building of grass root agencies.

AFPRO conducts regional consultations to understand regional issues of local relevance. After the Regional Consultations, AFPRO's interventions are planned.
