  OUR MISSION

Within our overall mandate, we at MANAGE regard our mission as Facilitating the Acquisition of Managerial and Technical skills by Extension Officers, Managers, Scientists and Administrators in all sectors of Agricultural economy to enable them to provide most effective support and services to Farmers and Fishermen for practicing Sustainable Agriculture.

The task of facilitating the modernization of India's agricultural extension system is far beyond the capabilities of a single institution. As an apex institution, therefore, MANAGE functions as a pace-setter, developing system designs and models of professional activities for other, state level institutions to adopt. Sharing these experiences to enable other institutions to adapt and adopt these innovations is one of our core concerns.

   OUR VISION

To be counted among the most pioneering, innovative, farmer-focused and self-supporting agricultural management institutes in the world. We strive constantly to actualize these values in our functioning.

It may perhaps be useful, as a brief summing up, to have a quick look at how we seek to attain these core values embedded in our vision.

We are proud of being pioneers in:

  • Starting a 2-year Post-Graduate Programme in Agri-business Management open only to the graduates in agricultural and allied technology areas, perhaps the only such programme so far in the country.

  • Starting the first ever 1-year Post-Graduate Programme in Agricultural Extension Management.
  • Designing the ambitious Distance Learning System for farmers' skill development, integrating the widest possible range of methodologies from direct skills training of farmers to satellite transmission of instruction.

  • Developing the first complete multi-media interactive learning packages on Watershed Development and Rainfed Rice Cultivation.
  • Developing the completely user-driven diagnostic expert system on Rice Pests and Diseases.

Our collective creativity has brought about several innovations in the design and development of each of our pioneering activities. Even in our regular activities, we have applied our core values of user friendliness and self-sufficiency and overcome physical and financial constrains through innovative approaches and methodologies such as:

  • Our unique system of Faculty Development and Networking
  • Our off_campus programmes on project sites
  • Our effective functional linkages with several national and regional institutions for high quality services.
  • Our flexible and responsive administrative procedures which are the result of constant efforts at Business Process Reengineering.
  • Our endeavor to obtain ISO_9001 certification for our training and consultancy services in the near future.

Our concern for farmer-focus reflects in the approach to all our professional services.

  • Our client-centered process consultancy and use of participative techniques in regular consultancy assignments.
  • Our interactive and experiential learning methodology for management training programmes.
  • Our focussed publications and information processing services for faculty and participants
  • Our modern physical infrastructure for comfortable living and recreational activity

Our determination to achieve financial self-reliance is an outcome of our own need for functional autonomy and the Government's policy to encourage self-sufficiency by institutions hitherto fully funded by the Government. We hope that in a few years we would be able to generate internal resources sufficient to meet all our operational costs. To this end, we have taken the following steps:

  • Charge fees for our consultancy, management training and educational programmes from all clients and participants including central and State Governments.
  • Create greater demand for our professional services through constant improvement in their quality and focus on variety of client needs.
  • Recover operational costs of physical infrastructure such as hostels, canteen, class rooms as well as from our green houses, orchards, plantations and horticulture areas.
  • Seek government grants for creation and maintenance of capital assets and core faculty.
  • We are also trying to establish a Corpus Fund for the institute, which will help us broad base, our sources of capital formation for long term sustainability.
