5. Success Story : Mulberry Shoot rearing method.

Village:Petlur (V)

           Sri M.Brahmaiah of Petluru village Kondepi Mandal along with 2 farmers has come farward to raise Mulberry in 3 acres instead Tobacco, Chillies, Sweet potato with the encouragement of Sericulture department and ATMA, Prakasam under crop diversification.

           By this new method of shoot rearing in Mulberry save labour and produced quality Cocoons, as Mulberry stems were cut and fed to silk worm instead of leaf, picking and feeding.

           Farmers invested Rs.25,000/- in addition to finance assistance Rs.8,000/- from ATMA.

           First year 2001-02 farmer realized Rs.51,000/- gross income and net profit of Rs.26,000/- after deduction expenditure of Rs.21,000/-.

           Per acre income is Rs.8,600/- farmer also sold Mulberry stem cuttings realizing 6,000/- during the year.

           About 25 more farmers are willing to take up new shoot rearing cultivation rather than cultivating Tobacco and Cotton under irrigated conditions.
