Work Experience

 

Joined MANAGE in 1991 as Research Associate and involved in the training, research and consultancy programs of MANAGE.  In the initial years, involved in the research activities carried out by MANAGE in developing the concept of Farming Situation Based Extension, Farming Systems Approach and Distance Learning the MANAGE Way. Gained field experience working with Krishi Vignan Kendras (KVKs) across the country in conducting the distance learning programs and conducting the skill based trainings to the field level workers.

 

As Field Coordinator in the Participatory Adaptive Research Project for Tribal Development, involved in finalization of farmer wise action plans; responsible for grounding and monitoring adaptive trials in different crops for technology assessment and refinement (TAR) at three tribal regions of Andhra Pradesh viz. Utnoor (Adilabad district), Bhadrachalam (Khammam district) and Rampachodavaram (E.Godavari district).  Liaisoning with the ANGRAU Researchers, Commissioner of Tribal Welfare, NGOs and guiding/ supervision of Sectoral Officers, Adaptive Research Officers and Field workers in the technical aspects added the administrative skills and experience. 

 

State Consultant to Jharkand under the National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP) involved in the preparation of Strategic Research Extension Plans (SREPs) for the Districts.  Involved in the implementation and Operationalisation of the ATMA in the pilot district of Jharkand. The experience as consultant gave an insight to understand the field problems in implementation of the Schemes.  Associated with the implementation of self-finance course DAESI for input dealers of Ranga Reddy District of Andhra Pradesh. 

 

Shouldered the responsibility of implementation of "Extension Reforms" in the country first in 262 districts and later extended to all the remaining 300 development districts of the country. 

 

Revised the guidelines for Strategic Research Extension Plans (SREP).  Conducted State Level, District Level and Block Level orientation trainings on ATMA model.  Involved in developing Master Trainers for preparation of SREPs for the districts.  Carried out the vetting of SREPs for a number of districts across the states.  Conducted orientation trainings on Operationalisation of ATMA & SREP in all the states.  

 

Contributions

 

Developed the concept of distance learning for imparting skills training to the farmers in various new technologies viz. hybrid rice seed production; hybrid castor seed production; poultry; IPM and groundnut etc. The distance-learning concept was tested and implemented through several NGOs.

 

Involved in the development of the concept Farming situation based extension (FSBE) for different crops or commodities. FSBE mainly focuses on the development of technical package for crops or commodities taking a micro level agro-ecological situation and the farmer's constraints. Based on this a strategy was developed. The FSBE was widely accepted in different states and a number of training programs were organized to build capacity in this area.

 

Involved in the development of Farming systems Approach a concept and methodology for analyzing the Farming Systems with the individual or group of farmers having the similar resources.  The Methodology and models for different farming systems were evolved and a number of training programs were conducted. The expertise was used in the preparation of Strategic Research and Extension Planning under National Agricultural Technology Project and Participatory Adaptive Research Project of Tribal Development and in implementation of Extension Reforms.

 

Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Extension (PGDAEM):  Coordinated the PGDAEM - self financed

course in six (6) states viz., Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, West Bengal, Bihar, Chattisgarh and Jharkand in its implementation and preparation of self study literature for two courses

Short Term Research Studies undertaken

 

  • On the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, the Farmer Field Schools of Nagpur District of Maharashtra were studied in terms of its impact and the budget utilization and a report was submitted.

  • A Pilot Study on the Awareness of Important Agricultural Development Programs of Govt. of India among Extension Functionaries and Farmers were taken up for the state of Jharkand and Madhya Pradesh

Work Profile

 

Worked as Research Associate from 1991 to 1997 in MANAGE. Conducted training programs for the international delegates from Sudan, Syria, Nigeria, Ethiopia , Uganda, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Magnolia besides training agricultural and allied sector field staff on FSBE,  FSA, PRA, Commodity Interest Groups etc.  From 1997 to 2002 as Asst. Director involved in training the district agricultural and allied sectors officers in guidelines of Watershed, PRA, FSBE and FSA.  As Dy. Director (Project) and Coordinator for Participatory Adaptive Research Project of ITDA, shouldered the responsibility of Technology Assessment and Refinement (TAR) of the technologies released for the tribal belt of Andhra Pradesh. As Dy. Director (Regular) intensively involved in the implementation of the Extension Reforms Program in all the developmental districts of the country.
