ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR FARM WOMEN LEADERS ON NEW DIMENSIONS OF AGRICULTURE

 

A Unique study tour-cum-Orientation programme on “New Dimensions of Agriculture for Farm Women leaders of SHG’s” has been initiated by MANAGE.  This is  on the request of Government of A.P. in co-ordination with the District Rural Development Agency to improve the socio-economic status of rural poor -  focusing on agriculture and allied enterprises. In this connection initially 50-60 farm women leaders of SHG’s were invited from different districts for a day to have feedback on field problems and also to develop need based IT packages for farm women according to their felt needs. The first such programme was organized during December 2000, and a series of such programmes are proposed to be taken up covering about 1500 farm women leaders from 22 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

 

In this programme Scientists, experts and concerned officials interacted with the women leaders at MANAGE and also through Video-Conferencing. These women were exposed to various innovative concepts such as Natural Resource Management,  Fertigation (recycling plant for  sewerage water), vermicompost, agriculture, horticulture, Post-harvest technologies, organic farming, animal husbandry, nutrition, hygiene and sanitation, use of internet, video conferencing etc.  The women showed keen interest in fertigation, latest technologies in the field of agriculture, organic farming, preservation of natural resources, cultivation of vegetables, floriculture, dairy and poultry.  Farm women expressed concern over marketing linkages and also on the impact of WTO on agriculture.

           

 

 

MANAGE PARTICIPATES IN KRISHI-EXPO-2001

 

The Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, organised an International Trade Fair "KRISHI-EXPO-2001" with the theme "Globalization of Indian Agriculture" during February 24 - March 1, 2001. The expo was inaugurated by Honourable Union Minister of Agriculture, Shri. Nitish Kumar at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on 24th February, 2001. Over 1 lakh farmers visited the Krishi-Expo during a 6 day exhibition. There were around 3000 exhibits / stalls in four halls of Pragati Maidan, along with a theme pavilion.

 

MANAGE was invited by Ministry of Agriculture to participate in the Krishi-Expo with the theme presentation on "IT in Agriculture". MANAGE presented its various initiatives in the usage of Information and Communication Technologies for improving information access at farmers level. MANAGE packaged information on its initiatives in developing multimedia self learning packages on watershed management, National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP), Rythu Bazar (Kisan ki Mandi) and Cyber Extension. MANAGE Videos on "A Journey Through Watersheds" (a documentary on important success stories of watershed management across the country), "Yatra" (a documentary on women's participation in extension programmes and learning through field visits) were exhibited. "MANAGE Bulletin" and the booklet on "Agri-Informatics" were highly appreciated by the visiting scientists, farmers and industry. The CD and Video material of MANAGE was very well received by the visiting farmers and they requested MANAGE to provide copies in Hindi and other languages.

 

The Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Shri. Nitish Kumar, and Honourable Union Minister of State Agriculture, Shri. Shripad Y. Naik visited the stall. The Honourable Minister showed keen interest in MANAGE initiatives of taking IT to the grass-root level. He was pleasantly surprised to listen to the beneficial aspects of IT from the rural women at MANAGE stall.  Secretary Agriculture, Shri. J.N.L. Srivastava, Special Secretary Agriculture, Shri. Hemendra Kumar, Additional Secretary Agriculture, Shri. S.K. Purkayastha and Joint Secretary Agriculture, Mrs. Rita Sharma also visited the stall.

 

A series of seminars on topical issues were also organized during the Krishi-Expo-2001 at Pragati Maidan. The seminar on "IT in Agriculture" was jointly organized by MANAGE and Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture on 1st March, 2001.  A total of six presentations were made during the seminar by MANAGE, National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM), Jaipur, Warna Wired Village (by NIC), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Babhaleshwar, Agriwatch.com and Harithgyan (JIL Information Technology Limited), Ghaziabad. 

 

Shri. A.K. Goel, Director General, MANAGE was the Chairperson for the seminar. Dr. V.P. Sharma made a presentation on "Cyber Extension - MANAGE IT Initiatives".  Mrs. Renuka Rani and Ms. Deepkala shared their experiences of using the weather and price information at the village level. Our presentation was very well appreciated by the audience and we got a number of queries on possible collaboration and MANAGE support to IT Initiatives at village and district level in a number of states.  The IT seminar was extremely successful in extending the MANAGE message to the National Audience.

 

 

Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Honourable Minister of State for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation visited MANAGE on January, 2001.  During his visit the Honourable Minister interacted with MANAGE faculty and also had the opportunity to see the application of new concepts relating to Natural Resource Management, Fertigation, Vermiculture etc.

 

 

CENTER FOR AGRI BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AT MANAGE MANAGES AGAIN!

100% PLACEMENTS SINCE INCEPTION!

 

It is yet another event well done for the 4th consecutive time with MANAGE achieving 100 per cent placements this year and all the 24 students being confirmed placement in 12 Agri-Business companies.

 

The sectors in which the students are placed are as follows: Procurement: 3; Pesticides: 4; Seeds: 7; Services: 6; Fertilizers: 2; Retailing: 1 and Dotcom ventures: 1.  The three new sectors into which MANAGE has made inroads are Services, Retailing and Dotcom Ventures.  The average salary has also gone up.

 

Placement is not all about MANAGE but one of the most eloquent proof of our progress towards our objective of the institute i.e.; to provide to the Agri-Business industry the right talent fine-tuned to the right shape to fit into the Agri-Business sector which is ultimately in the service of the customer, the farmer, who is the back-bone of the economy.
