Experience:
Dr. N. Balasubramani is having about three decades of experiences in field extension, research and academics in various
capacities. Presently working as Director and heading the Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCA), in the
National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE). Ministry has recognized MANAGE as Nodal Organization
and Knowledge Repository for promoting Natural Farming. As Centre Head he is Promoting Natural Farming under
National Mission on Natural Farming. As part of the Mission, Master trainers from research organisations and
agri & allied department have been trained. About 70000 Krishi Sakhis/ CRP have been trained on Natural Farming
and certified across the country, Developed IEC material and study material for various stakeholders.
Capacity Building:
Expertise in the area of Climate Change, Agricultural Extension, Urban Agriculture and Market Led Extension and
conducted about 300 capacity building training programs at national and international level to the senior and
middle level extension functionaries on these themes.
Innovative Programs:
He was Involved in implementation of innovative programme namely Diploma in Agricultural Extension Services
for Input Dealers (DAESI) as Principal Coordinator for more than a decade. He is instrumental in training 30612
input dealers with 788 batches with the help of various Nodal Training Institutes in 20 states across the country.
The trained input dealers are acting as a Para extension professional and transferring the good agricultural
practices to the farmers and supplementing the extension system.
He is also implementing Certificate Course on Integrated Nutrient Management (CCINM), a self-financed 15 days training program which is useful for the input dealers to obtain fertilizer license. A total of 23202 candidates have completed so far across the country. They also involved as para extension professional for advisory services in soil health management.
Further, he has initiated an innovative program namely Certified Farm/Livestock Adviser programme (CFA/CLA), at national level to enhance the competency of the extension professional both in public and private sector in various crops and enterprises to create a cadre of expertise across agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry sector to enable them to deliver better advisory services to farming community.
He is also involved in implementing entrepreneurship program namely Jai Jawan Kisan for the Defence personnel working in Army, Navy and Airforce to expose them to entrepreneurial opportunities in agri and allied sectors to choose their carrier as livelihood options in the post retirement period.
Before Joining MANAGE, worked two and half years in NGO KVK (MYRADA - Krishi Vigyan Kendra ) / Farm Science Center), involved in participatory watershed development, participatory technology dissemination, technology dissemination to the famers, farmers mobilization into various user groups, and implementation of flagship programs.
He also worked about ten years in Rubber Board, under Ministry of Commerce and Promoted collective procurement of farm inputs, collective sale of farm produce and farm level processing. Promoted Commodity Interest Groups and Producers Companies and established both forward and backward linkages.
He has published 20 books, (Authored /Edited) and about 40 Research Articles in his credit
